In addition to sharing theoretical and practical winemaking techniques, Couloir Wines and Straight Line Wine also share similar viticultural practices. These practices include, but are not limited to, sustainable and organic farming. The goal is to produce the best wines possible and to maintain good stewardship of the earth:
- Choose vineyard sites that are appropriate for the specific grape variety
- Identify soil types and aspects to gain a better understanding of fruit character
- Engage vineyard managers/workers to farm to the goal; everyone is on the same page
- Manage canopy and yields throughout the growing season to ensure overall health and quality
- Hand harvest to ensure gentle handling of only the best grape clusters
- Use small picking bins to minimize juicing and bruising prior to processing
- The right grapes in the right vineyard farmed by the right people have great potential
