2011 Straight Line Wine Pinot Noir 1.5L
1 In Stock
A blend of Roma's Vineyard, Londer Vineyard, Monument Tree, and Chileno Valley Vineyard, this is a classically-styled Pinot Noir with red fruits, ripe strawberry, spice, and earth aromas. On the palate, the core of fresh red berry flavors, cherry, cranberry, raspberry, and rhubarb is supported by a touch of fragrant oak. Light and fresh, this wine adds complexity with pencil shavings, sandalwood, cedar, cigar box spices, and floral sous bois notes that unfold into high-toned red fruit. The long, focused finish conveys a sense of warm earth, and sun-kissed fall leaves.
This Pinot Noir is comprised of fruit sourced for Couloir Wines' single-vineyard designated Pinot Noirs. Each vineyard contributes distinctive characteristics, uniting into a cohesive and unique cuvee. Fruit from the Anderson Valley vineyards - Monument Tree, Londer and Roma’s - make up the majority of the final wine, providing bright fresh fruit, palate depth, and structure. The earthy, spicy and sour cherry notes come from the Chileno Valley Vineyard in Marin County and are the perfect complement to the red-fruit characteristics of Mendocino County – and specifically, Anderson Valley.
The fruit from each of the four vineyards was hand harvested separately into half-ton picking bins. The bins were placed in cold storage for a 24-hour resting period. All of the fruit was then hand-sorted. Part of the fruit was de-stemmed, adding a layer of complexity to the final wine while approximately 40% of the fruit was fermented whole cluster. A seven day cold soak extracted maximum color. One punch down per day afforded minimal tannin extraction from the skins allowing the stem tannins provide the wine’s structure. Gravity fed into French oak barrels, 40% new. Neither racking, nor fining, nor filtering.
